Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
I still don't get what does it mean to "stop" camera. Actually that one in Vikersund was a cameraman mistake as he didn't expect Żyła to fly so longmlody5 wrote:He means:

Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
Maybe two options ?
1. first option stop camera:
for example:
Press and hold "s" key to stop camera
If you want to camera back to ski jumper, relase this key. (with a rubber band effect)
2. second option with position camera in this place who we want to
example:
Press and hold "d" key and use the mouse to postion camera in this place who you want to. (for be ahead of the ski jumper)
DSJ4 for me is the best simulator of ski jumping, so let us go on this way still, not only same ski jumping, but all that surrounds it.

@Ralph K. yes, but eg.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCWQWVkL9qM - it's my video 'parody' of Zyla jump, and if in DSJ4 would be that option, I can record a video with the same angle of camera.

Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
We have once brought out the idea of free-look camera in replays. Wouldn't that give all the aspects that video makers ever need? Then again we don't have any idea as a community how the replay-spectating is coded and if it is possible at all to make a simple free look.

That's gotta hurt.
Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
I've got another idea.
Some cameras, for example F2, follows the jumper all the time.
In most of the competitions in real ski jumping camera stops in some place and it starts only "rotating" to the jumper, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGPHBCpvUxo (0:24).
Can you do something like this Jussi?

Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
The main problem is that it's not possible for the user to (easily) control the movement and the orientation of the camera at the same time. I could implement a camera that can be positioned anywhere and then rotated to any direction (so that it's not locked to ski jumper) but it still leaves it impossible to reproduce many kind of camera movements that are seen on TV.Zmaster wrote:We have once brought out the idea of free-look camera in replays. Controls for the camera movement would also have to be different (and probably more difficult to use) once the camera was not ski jumper centric any more.
Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
Let's try, Jussi. If You can put stop focusing in DSJ, maybe release test version of this, eg. 1.4.1.1 or 1.4.1b/t (b like beta, t like "test"). Users always can help
Feedback is very important

Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
It will be really useful for youtubers.
I would love to have that camera option in the game.

Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
I have now implemented the freely movable cameras (i.e. you can move the camera anywhere and target it anywhere without it being locked to the ski jumper).
The replay speed can also be adjusted from 2x down to 1/128x and the animation will be super smooth (regardless of speed) like seen on high frame rate slow motion captures on TV.

Wow, that sounds great, can't wait to try it! I have a few questions about the free camera, though:Jussi Koskela wrote:I have now implemented the freely movable cameras (i.e. you can move the camera anywhere and target it anywhere without it being locked to the ski jumper).

You said earlier that the controls for the free camera would be complicated. How do they work now? Is it still easy enough to adjust the camera in real-time (e.g. while watching a replay)?
Will a saved camera setting be able to store camera movements and, if so, how will that work? For example: camera is supposed to turn to the right at takeoff, but because the jumper can wait before the jump and the gates can vary, those movements can't be tied to time. So, can the saved cameras have any kind of movement or will they just be static? Or can we make keyboard shortcuts to camera macros for common operations like "follow jumper by moving along", (like in F2, F3), "follow by rotating" (like F1) or "rotate x degrees in some direction with speed y" etc.?
And finally, now that we have much more options for different cameras, will we get more slots to save camera settings or at least have some way to back them up?

Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
I try to keep controlling the cameras as simple as possible. This is how it works currently:
Ctrl-V switches between the default mode and the new free camera mode. The default camera mode works as before. In the free camera mode Ctrl + Mouse rotates the camera around it's current position and Alt + Mouse moves the camera forwards/backwards. So, you can move the camera next to the takeoff board and follow the ski jumper manually by holding Ctrl and moving the mouse. I have included some inertia to the camera, so the rotation should look pretty natural. When you return from the free camera mode to the default mode the camera turns smoothly towards the ski jumper.
I haven't included any extra slots.

Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
Ok, thanks. That sounds very reasonable. So, the free camera is mainly intended for watching replays, not for jumping, right? Then, would I be right to assume that it is not possible to save free camera settings at all (or that they remain in effect only while watching the same replay)?
More camera slots would still be nice though, I'm running out of F2/F3 modifications as it is. Maybe shift/ctrl + function keys for extra slots?

Yes, the free cam mode is intended for the replays. Or at least it will take some skill to the control the camera while jumping.MJumper wrote:Ok, thanks. That sounds very reasonable. Only the position of the camera is saved at the moment. I could save also the direction of the camera, if that's needed.
Re: Stop Camera Option [IDEA]
I have 2 questions:
How shall we change speed of replay?
And when will we get this update?
