Hey Jussi,
Would it be possible for the jumper to recover from a falling stance? With this I mean for example that when the jumper is about to fall, that he could eventually recover and stay standing? (For this to happen, we would for example have to move the mouse and press buttons or so when the jumper is falling...?) Would this be possible in any way?

Re: recovering from falling
well something like that would be interesting as well, especially the third one with Ahonen showing his anger at him not standing the jump fully...would be nice to see some more emotions from the jumpers in DSJ...in good and bad jumps!
But what I actually meant was more like this:

or especially this:

where they almost fall but fully recover and retain full points...

Re: recovering from falling
That's very difficult to implement so that it would look credible.
Re: recovering from falling
I also noticed that jumpers in dsj show very little ability to regain balance.
Often the jumpers lands much better than in those videos linked here, but still falls a second later.
Or e.g. they fall into a sitting position, move along this way 50 meters and then finally fall, which looks very unrealistic. If jumpers go donw into a sitting position, they usually manage to stand up and not fall (though if they touched the snow it will count as a fall). Also everytime in dsj one ski gets a little out of lane, the jumper falls...
I would also like to see jumpers not to fall that easily, and something in between good, stable landing and falling would be introduced into DSJ, an unstable landing, but where the jumper does not fall. I think the fall rate is still to high in DSJ because of this.

Yes nice Idea, now, if the Landing of the Jumper is too hard, the comes no muscle force more and they just do ''nothing'' and slide down the Hill, if you know what i mean.
Sry for my bad Englisch
.
Maybe a good Control to rise up again is too press the mouse buttons so long if the Jumper stands again. A really nice idea and Imagination/vision too!

Jumping into a volcano is also possible. But that's not enough of a reason to try doing it. Really, I hate it when people give general statements like "everything is possible", when they have no slightest idea about the work Jussi would need to put into that feature. Personally I think it would take too much time. Of course, "everything is possible", so Jussi said "that is very difficult to do" instead of saying "no" - but what he meant is "to make it look good, there would be very much work needed".Rid wrote:Everything is possibleBartek Palewicz wrote:But not impossible? When you make a jump, the jumper is making some simple moves like leaning at the inrun, then drawing up. These simple moves are easy to describe as physical forces. If he falls, the ragdoll mode gets enabled. It would be easy to make the jumper "get up" but it would look like you were pulling the strings of a puppet. Alternatively, you could let the jumper use his arms to push off the ground then slowly get up, just like in real life (remember: all the animations are results of gravity and other physical forces in this game... it's all about physics) but do we really need that complex mechanics, just for this feature?
