What do offline and online records tell?

I mean, online records are around for some time now and still nobody can get records near WR offline distances. Is there any specific reason for it? PS. do you know any player who has done his best jumps in online?

Offline many many tries with perfect wind
Online maximum 3 trys in a row

The way I see it (ideally at least):
Offline
- Maximum potential of each hill
- Need perfect jump + perfect wind/gate ( = excellent player + lots of time) --> record hunting necessary
Online
- For comparing players' skill
- No possibility of record hunting --> only skill counts (in theory)
If you want to really judge peoples' skill relative to each other, you should observe mainly the
periodic online records, i.e. monthly or weekly, because these give you an idea of a player's typical performance and not only their maximum. I think the best meter would be the median of weekly online records (or a zero-excluding average).
