Many of us have nice gaming rigs or otherwise just fast computers. Its always nice to use as much of the potential of the hardware as possible; Thus, I suggest adding optional hi-res textures to use. Another option for this would be modding support, so people could do all this work for you (yeah, Im sure many would contribute). Modding support would also add a nice amount of customization: Players could use texture/sound packs made by the community.

Higher resolution textures has been on my todo list but I simply haven't had enough time to work on them (yet).
Modding support could be included to some extent later. I have to think about it.

I would also love to be able to mod the game.

That would be pretty awesome (moddable textures)
