Damn, this one is a hard nut to crack. Without beeing biased i wouldnt wote on a norwegian jumper. Adam malysz is one that comes to mind. WC several times with several overall world cup wins. Janne Ahonen winning 5 of the 4 hills ski jumping tournament. Gregor schl. He is the future. He will surpass Matti, of this im quite shure.
Of the norwegian jumpers i would say Roar just because he was so stable from 2003-2006 and won 2 skiflying world championships. Matti hautaeki. 4 world records. I could list all day long. But in the end i gave Janne my vote.
It was very close by Ahonen and Malysz, but Ahonen has been very stabile.
World Cup:
Ahonen: 3- 5-15- 4- 1- 1- 2- 8- 3- x 2 times no.1 8 of 9 times top 10
Malysz: 28- 1- 1- 1-12- 4- 9- 1-12-13 4 times no.1 6 of 10 times top 10
4 Hill Tournament:
Ahonen 4 victories
Malysz 1 victory
There is definitely only one vote to give here. It not only the numbers and statistics, but the way of jumping and adapting again and again to new rules and changing equipement.
Having done a first WC win in 1993, having had exactly one (!) season since 1993 not being in the Top10 of overall worldcup is just amazing.
Malysz also was very good in the last decade, but Ahonen's stability was just far more impressing.
Let him win an individual medal in Vancouver and he will make his career perfect.
