Beginner question

Post by Charly »

Hi.
I'm testing the demo version. I like the game, but I'm very bad. For the moment, I'm happy when I land on the blue line :(
If somebody can help me...

My technique :
left and right click to jump
mouse back for V-position
(try to left/right with the wind, but no effects)
left then right click for telemark landing (some few meter after the top of the hill !)

Nothing more in the "Read me" file.
I don't know how to FLY !

Hi Charly!

At first: One of the most important things is the takeoff! You have to push both mouse buttons as simultanously as possible!
Then move your mouse back as fast as possible. On larger hills the most important thing is speed and on smaller hills the most important thing is height :)

Download some replays here:
http://wallhome.dyndns.org/vik/replays/
http://dsj.republika.pl
watch them and try to do it the same way.

For long jumps wind from the front is important too ... and telemark isn't necessary ;)

Good luck!

How to improve speed or height ?
Is moving left or right usefull or not (for wind) ?

The timing for the take-off is very important: if you press the buttons too late, you won't get high... :( ... and holddown the buttons for take-off not to short ...

after that try to have a constant position without any movings while flying...

Good luck

So I have to hold (stay push) the buttons to take-off ? I thought it was only click.
I will try !

Speed up (and lose height) --> mouse backward (or right)
Height (and speed down) --> mouse forward (or left)
(only in flight, not at the inrun)

Clicking both buttons, moving back the mouse and then releasing the buttons is a good technique, IMHO  (and, this has to be done very fast ... it's all a question of training ... maybe you should try to start the backward-move while clicking to get the flying position as fast as possible ...)

Cannot watch them now .. at work 8)

AND .. it will take a while until you will get near the records! Don't think to break the records within the next days

Charly, as far as i can see you're using a camera from the back.

So:
Is moving left or right usefull or not (for wind)
Nope, only backwards and foreward (for side cam it is left and right)

Inrun speed is dependant on the wind strenght. If you have front strong wind you have lower speed, and if you have strong wind from behind, you move much faster.

As it was said, best way to learn is to watch other's replays and observe the jumpers behavior. And practice practice practice :!:

Good Luck :)

I don't think so!
Left and forward have the same function (up)
Right and backward have the same function too (down)

The difference is: backward/forward are more sensitive than left/right, aren't they?

Well you're right but I am trying to make it clear for a begginer :)
I think what he asked was if it is possible to make jumper move left or right to use the side wind for exaple :) Kinda improving the flight position of jumper (horizontal). I'm not sure if you know what i mean :)

Is that a joke? On the polish website, u can find so many cheat jumps, where you jump till you can push you again from the ground!

That is cheating and no simulation.

Is that the reason, why im always last one in online modus? Cause i jump like a real jumper?

The physics were fixed for DSJ3 v1.5.0, so nobody can use that trick in the online game.
