The ski jumper leaves traces/trail behind him in the snow/plastic.

Texture. There was some dirt on it.

looks really sweet :D
would be cool if the traces were left after every jumper.

It would make it too slow.

without knowing whether Jussi tested it or not, it is obvious that game runs smoothly on good computers, and fairly good on slightly older ones. Those slightly older ones will start having harder time as there are one trace after another. While good computers still manage to run smoothly after hundreds on jumps, they will also eventually start to struggle with infinite amount of new trails. Surely this isn't what any programmer wants from their game.

As I am writing this, I started to wonder if there is a way to determine how many traces you might wanna have simultaneously? Ie. 0-100 slide control?

That's gotta hurt.

No, but I have a strong feeling about this. There can be up to 50000 vertices in the traces of a single jump.

What happened to the flags? Have they been compressed or something? They look somewhat blurry and low-res now.

Where do you notice this? On the helmet or in the stats?

The flag textures used to be 256x256 but I reduced the size to 32x32 as there are much more of them available now. The flags of the hills are still 256x256. I thought 32x32 was enough for the stats and helmets.

In the (online) stats. Also the colors appear to be washed out a bit.

Yeah, this must be it, I noticed it immediately. Maybe it's more striking on higher resolutions (I'm currently running at 1920x1200)? Anyways, if I had the choice, I'd rather download a 20MB install pack with the 256px ones, but that's just me. Or is the difference in filesize that dramatic? I don't think that a few MBs more would matter with today's average bandwidth. Lowering the resolution 64 times (if I did the math correctly) seems overly harsh even if they're just tiny icons.

It is also a question of anti-aliasing vs. no anti-aliasing. Earlier no anti-aliasing was used and this resulted some artifacts (depending on the screen resolution) on complex flags (e.g. stars missing from the flag of USA and stripes formed irregularly). Now anti-aliasing is pre-applied which results some blurrines but prevents the appearance of artifacts.
