Maybe you could control the take off with mouse horizontally
1. Pull mouse back immediately/same time while takeoff = force goes more up -> skis behave more aggressively at early stage of flight.
2. Move mouse forward immediately/same time while takeoff = force goes more forward -> skis stays lower at early stage of flight.
This would be useful in different hills and in different conditions.
Front wind -> You could lean more (2.) forward and get advantage from wind by getting more pressure to skis and maintain speed more effectively.
Back wind -> You must pull mouse (1.) back and get pressure to the skis (worse wind -> higher gate/speed).
You couldn't have total control of balance (like during flight) but like minor control which would add extra difficult into game.
I know I'm asking a lot but this would be nice addition to game.
