I think lighting in the evening hills [notably Lahti] is insufficient. I play in 1920x1080, 32BPP and AAx4 and I can't observe a spot of threshold. ;P

I think editor in training mode is best option, because that protect from cheating in normal events and online mode.

Yes, I think it's bad idea too... nevertheless hills are realistic.

Inasmuch as in the 4th version more details have been added, maybe worth append a crowd or increase textures in game? However many of people have high-end computers, and options are only possibility.
