Best viewing perspective/camera viewpoint for jumping?

Post by dullek »

Which perspective / camera angle do you use when playing DSJ?

Do you use the same always? Do you change within the jump?
Which perspective gives the best results?

Imho F1 or F3 are good for hitting the best take off, while F2 is best for the flying and landing phase.
Overall in average I get the best results with F1 or a combination of F1 and F2 (F1 until take off, then switch to F2).
For short Hills, pure F1 style is a little better, while für skiflying F1/F2 combo is better.
F3 is almost ok for short shills, but not good at all for long ones.
What do you think?

For me, I use different views. I play world cups with 5 different personal jumpers.
No.1 jumps using the F1 view.
No.2 jumps using the F2 view.
No.3 jumps using the F3 view.
No.4 jumps using the combined F1/F2 view.
No.5 jumps using the combined F3/F2 view.

The fun of it is, that I get really different characters out of it. No.4 is the best overall, but No.1 is almost as good, maybe even a little better at the short hills, but not as good as No.4 in flying. No.2 is good in the flying phase but has problems hitting the take off. No.3 and No. 5 get very mixed results. No.3 is a good strong jumper, good with short hills, but mostly miserable at large hills... No. 5 is also a good jumper, but sometiems has problems in the early flying phase...

I use two technics:
1. Jumping with F1 camera (all normal and big hills)
2. F1 on inrun, F2 in flight (flying hills)

Every time this discussion comes up I'm always surprised how many people use the default cameras, considering how diverse the editing possibilities are.
I always use a F2/F3 hybrid, meaning this:
Image Image.

For me, these cameras give the optimal combination of take-off and flight visibility angles (except in some hills where I can't see the takeoff at all, but I got used to those so I can jump anyway). If I had to use a standard camera, I'd say F2 beats the rest hands down.

About switching cameras in mid-air, I think it's a bad idea. I used to do it in hills with poor visibility (Kuopio most notably) but once I learned to jump "blind" I actually improved a bit. Of course, I'm not as good as Maciej so maybe my advice is not as valid  .

Most of my records are scored on F1 too. But some of the latest ones with F1+F2... And btw, F1 is personalized view then. So not the default camera point.
